Building up the bassline

-

12:01Drew is now in possession of Steve’s exported files. After working on the beat a little, he gets on with the bassline, He’s made a start with a patch from u-he’s Hive synth, getting the juices flowing. “I’ll start jamming on the keyboard so that I’ve got a very basic skeleton bassline,” he tells us. After this, Drew duplicates the MIDI part and sends it out of Logic into his outboard Access Virus C synth. The patch that Drew reckons fits well with the tune is a sinister, delayed ‘wob’ sound that kicks in a little later than the Hive sound, complementing it and adding some texture. After that, another Hive layer puts a little more top-end energy into the bass part.
