2. Magic subs with a bass enhancer plugin

-

1 With the magic of modern plugins, we can easily give lacklustre sounds bone-crushing, rumbling low-frequency weight – even if they don’t feature enough sub content to boost! Import the files beginning “HipHop…” into a fresh 92bpm project. We’ll add MeldaProduction’s MBassador to the Sample channel, with the Default preset selected. 2 First, we’ll adjust MBassador’s Crossover to 200Hz, so the plugin can latch onto the lower frequencies in our sample. Next, disable the Bass band before enabling the Sub and Sub 2 bands to add some musically-compatible low frequencies into the sound. Hitting the Bass Solo button allows us to monitor the signal that MBassador is adding. 3 We can add extra weight to the bottom sub octave by pushing Sub 2 Level up to 100%, with Saturation set at 25% – you’ll hear the bottom end fill out as you push these levels up. To finish, we’ll gently sidechain compress the Sample channel, using the Bass Stab as a trigger. This gives our bass end a smoother overall sound.
