IMono/Poly

Web www.korg.com Format iOS The iOS virtualisation of Korg’s classic 80s analogue synth brings the full Mono/Poly experience to your iPhone or iPad, and adds to it with two effects modules featuring a choice of 19 impressively tweakable processors (delays, reverbs, dynamics, etc), and two X/Y pads for performance modulation. It also integrates with Korg’s Gadget virtual studio, in which it’s named Montpellier. A four-oscillator synth, iMono/Poly includes all three of the original synth’s voicing modes (the fabulous Chord memory, hard-hitting Unison and one-oscillator-per-voice Polyphonic), plus an extra polyphonic option that has all four oscillators playing with every note. Other features of note include an enormous modulation system, a comprehensive MIDI control scheme and 128 well-crafted presets.

We really can’t fault iMono/Poly’s feature-completeness or authentic sound and feel – it’s another winner for the now-veteran iOS developers. However, while the app really shines on iPad, with its nicely scaled GUI, the controls and text are almost showstoppingly tiny on even plus-sized iPhones, despite being arranged across multiple screens. Not Korg’s fault, of course, but certainly something for potential buyers to consider.
