A World Leader
WOHA’s Kampung Admiralty was named World Building Of The Year at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2018 in Amsterdam. This marks the third time an architecture project in Singapore has claimed the highest accolade at WAF. We reviewed this progressive one-stop integrated complex designed for Singapore’s ageing population in Cubes issue 89. Situated on a tight site with a height limit of 45 metres, Kampung Admiralty – with landscape by Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl – is a layered ‘club sandwich’ scheme that stacks a variety of commercial, residential and health spaces, topped by generous green terraces with a built-in water ecosystem. Said the jury: “This is a project that does something necessary in an intelligent fashion, from the way it connects to transport to its natural ventilation strategy... The jury felt this was a project with potential lessons for cities and countries around the world.”
