Designed in 1952 as a gift for the American-Scandinavian Foundation in New York, Arne Jacobsen’s Society Table is now available from Carl Hansen & Son as part of its catalogue of design classics. The table was bold in its day, and remains so with a slim tubular steel structure creating a floating effect for drawer and shelf units. The integrated conical lamp hovers over a leather-covered tabletop.

Carl Hansen & Son has relaunched the sophisticated table in close cooperation with Jacobsen’s family. Says his grandson, designer Tobias Jacobsen: “The Society Table is an expression of my grandfather’s remarkable ability to make the complex appear very simple. The desk is also an archetypal example of his functionalist approach to the design process.” In Singapore, Carl Hansen & Son is available through P5 Studio and Xtra.
