Ocean To Office
Did you know that eight million tonnes of plastic waste enter the ocean each year? 640,000 of those tonnes are fishing nets. And did you know that if we don’t do something about it, there will be more plastic waste than fish in our oceans by the year 2050? One way to keep the plastic out of the ocean is by recycling and repurposing it. Humanscale took action by partnering up with Bureo, a Chilebased collective focusing on creating innovative solutions to mitigate ocean plastic pollution. Bureo founded the fishing-net collection and recycling program called Net Positiva, which cleans discarded net and processes it into plastic pellets called NetPlus. These pellets are used to create products like skateboards, sunglasses, and – thanks to Humanscale – ergonomic task chairs. Each of Humanscale’s Smart Ocean task chairs is made with two pounds of NetPlus and features the patented Form-Sensing Mesh Technology that instantly adjusts to and moves with every unique user – no training, instructions or manual needed.
