Honest Design

“I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression,” says Danish designer Simon Legald. “Honesty is what makes a product understandable.” Legald’s creation for Normann Copenhagen, the Pad lounge series, is an embodiment of this philosophy. The design builds on the chair’s solid steel frame, pairing it with moulded oak veneer shells and a padded front. Pad offers a simple yet sophisticated juxtaposition – boxy yet rounded, sturdy yet visually lightweight, the gloss and coldness of metal meets the warmth of wood and fabric. Its duality means it can easily fit into both private and public realms. The series comprises a high and low lounge chair, as well as a complementing footstool. The steel frame is available in grey or black while the oak veneer shell is offered in natural or a black-painted finish. The upholstery is available in a wide variety of thicknesses and shades.
