Cubes Louis Poulsen

-

It was only a matter of time before Louis Poulsen – the master of design that shapes light – collaborated with Olafur Eliasson. The Danish-Icelandic artist is known for creating moving experiences of light, and this year at the Salone del Mobile we were presented with the extraordinary outcome of their collaboration. The new OE Quasi Light is a masterful functional sculpture that was inspired by the relationships between mathematical forms. The 900mm-diameter pendant light is composed of two contrasting shapes nested inside each other: an outer rigid frame of 90-per-cent-recycled aluminium in the form of an icosahedron (20 faces, 12 vertices), and an interior dodecahedron (12 faces, 20 vertices) of white polycarbonate. LED lights are embedded at the vertices of the icosahedron, directing the light toward the dodecahedron, which reflects the illumination with a spherical distribution. A concern for the emotional and physical effects of our surroundings is at the core of OE Quasi Light.
