Sculpted With Exactitude

Foster + Partners first worked with Molteni&C on the design of the Still sofa in 2006. For Molteni&C’s sister company Unifor, the firm created a range of office furniture called Elements. Now, in a natural progression from the Unifor range, Foster + Partners have designed the Ava table for Molteni&C – a modular piece suitable for both residential and commercial contexts. Exactness of detail and economy of material (natural wood) contribute to the sustainability credentials of Ava. Inspired by the lightweight forms of aircraft wings and bridges, it consists of two basic segments – a middle section and a cantilevered end – that can be combined to create a single table of any length. The joints are accentuated by a shadow gap that references architectural traditions. In Singapore, Molteni&C is available from P5.
