Refresh And Restart
As a child, Yiu played tennis competitively for Hong Kong, and through it she discovered design. “I remember one competition where I had a homestay in Tokyo,” she recalls. She was fascinated by the home’s folding screens, wooden bath and tatami mats. “It must have been the late ’80s, but I can still remember spatially going up the stairs.” Tennis also gave her a collaborative spirit, endurance and willingness to experiment. “Tennis is such a diplomatic game; you lose and you still shake hands,” she says. “There’s no fear of failure. You work so hard, but if you lose a game, you refresh and try again.”
