Embrace your passion
When was the last time you thought about who you are and what you really want? Passions give our lives meaning and remind us we’re more than our to-do list. Reconnect with what ignites you by jotting down the answers to these questions.
1 What was I like as a child?
Were you a leader, an inventor, listener, organiser, nurturer? You’re the same person now. If you struggle with this question, ask a relative what they remember most about you. When I was a kid I was obsessed with reading non-fiction, writing and elevating the mood of people around me – basically my career now! If you could talk to your 10-year-old self, what might they encourage you to rediscover?
2 Which topic can I talk about for hours on end?
Perhaps it’s food, fashion, art, fitness or politics. What you love discussing deeply is a solid indicator of what makes you feel vibrant, connected and energised.
3 My best friend would say I am awesome at…
Consider what people seek you out for and the problems you help solve. Not only is this an area where you’ll feel confident, but it might also be a moneymaker. Be it résumé writing, matchmaking or teaching a fitness class, your natural strengths can become gratifying and profitable.
4 What hobbies do I fit in, even when there’s no time?
When you’re meant to be polishing a work presentation or folding laundry and get distracted, what are you doing instead? An accountant client of mine creates beauty products in her kitchen using organic ingredients. I’ve been a beneficiary, receiving dry shampoo, a face mask and body scrub. I always smile when my phone buzzes with a text announcing, “Your next sample’s ready, Susie! Now back to finances.” Explore your go-to hobby.
5 Is there something you say you’ll do one day?
If money and time were no issue, what would you be pursuing? What have you promised yourself you’ll explore in the future: writing a novel, planning events, kickstarting a jewellery business?
