Hypertensi­on can cause damage to the small blood vessels in the retina. High blood pressure in combinatio­n with diabetes taxes the blood vessels throughout your body and, over time, can cause them to harden, narrow and even burst.

Normal blood pressure:

below 120/80 mmHg

Prehyperte­nsion: above 120/80 mmHg but below 139/89 mmHg Hypertensi­on:

Stage 1: between 140/90 mmHg and 159/99 mmHg

Stage 2: 160/100 mmHg or higher
