KEEP FAMILY IN THE KNOW

-

While training for the marathon, Emily has had times where she has been running alone. She shared her tips on how you can help loved ones feel more comfortable while exercising:

Turn on location sharing with at least one person so you can be found easily in an emergency. (My mum also likes to watch where

I go and wait at the front door for me when I get home!)

Tell someone approximately how long you will be or what time you’re expecting to be home.

If you use Dexcom, make sure the share option is on, so your loved ones feel safe knowing they will be notified if you’re in real danger.

Answer their phone calls, even if it’s a bit annoying. (Liam always somehow manages to call me when

I’m on the tail end of a long run to tell me he’s proud of me! But I know it’s also to check that I’m OK without actually pestering me.)

Show them that you’re being responsible and carry lots of glucose with you.

Talk to them often about what you’re doing to manage your diabetes around your running. They’ll feel better knowing you’ve got action plans in place.
