DIABETES GENES UNLOCKED
Researchers from the United States have examined the genes of more than 200,000 people to discover the possible genetic variants linked to type 2. Breaking down the genetic make-up of each individual, they discovered 558 independent variations, of which 286 variants had never previously been identified. This investigation – published in the journal Nature Genetics – is the largest of its kind, and has the potential to help guide the treatment of individuals and potentially prevent complications associated with diabetes and gene variants. Researchers are now following the patients for a long-term analysis.
