IN FACT: Your heart will reap the rewards of a low-salt diet in just two weeks. An Australian study discovered that’s how little time it takes for consuming less salt to improve both your blood pressure and the ability of your heart’s blood vessels to ‘relax’, which is important for heart health.

TO MAKE IT WORK: Limit your salt intake to less than 4g, or 1600mg of sodium each day. With most people’s diets, 75 per cent of their salt comes from processed, packaged foods, so look for products that contain less than 120mg of sodium per 100g.
