DOs & DON’Ts

-

DO

When triggering sound-designed effects from libraries, it’s common to find their main ‘impact’ points occur a few seconds after initially triggering the sound. Resample sounds like this as audio files. You’ll find their waveforms make it much easier to place impacts at the right point in your project.

DON’T

Treat sample library content as sacred. Read the back stories of what goes into making commercial sample libraries and it’s tempting to think ‘how can I improve on this?’ But it’s not about improving. It’s about personalising.

DO

Note that repeatedly rendering audio files into new iterations won’t produce an audible drop in sound quality. Re-recording tape will build up artefacts. But unless you down-sample or distort your digital re-recordings, multiple renders won’t hurt.
