THE LITTLE THINGS

Five restaurateurs share the details they love most about their restaurant.

“I really love the small wall tiles in the bathrooms. They’re all slightly concave and are different in each bathroom. They exemplify the design consideration when we built Lee Ho Fook. It’s an odd detail but it’s the small things that bring joy.”

– Victor Liong, Lee Ho Fook

“Our timber shelves, because they are filled with our fave projects. They rotate between our fish prints, seasonal misos, vinegars, garum and pickles, and also just random things that make us happy. Ironically, they were never planned for this, and were originally designed to just store plates.”

Ben Devlin, Pipit

“The painting by Tim Storrier, which hangs at the western end of Catalina’s dining room. My late husband Michael commissioned it from his great friend

Tim Storrier, referencing a photograph of a wave by another close friend, John Witzig. It reminds me every day of Michael.”

Emerald Drift

– Judy McMahon, Catalina

“Our crockery range is called ‘Thrown’ by potter Damon Moon, and it’s been carefully curated from the JamFactory – a locally run not-for-profit organisation, supporting and promoting innovative and outstanding craft and design. We love the neutral and simplistic nature of the range.”

– Sharon Romeo, Fino Seppeltsfield

“The footrest on our bar and kitchen. It’s a stock-standard building material – a steel C channel – but looks great, feels great, it anchors the concrete bar and kitchen and is one of the first things you see when you come through the door.”

– Rebecca Yazbek, Nomad
