2016 SCHUBERT ESTATE GOOSE-YARD BLOCK BAROSSA VALLEY SHIRAZ

Hand-picked, open-fermented in 5-tonne pots, matured for 20 months in French barriques (66% new). I have consistently given this wine high points in good vintages, and find no reason to downgrade it simply because of the depth and richness of the fruit. The fact that its alcohol is so high (15.5% on the bottle, 15.7% in the info supplied by Schubert Estate), is but part of a massively flavoured wine, part ex fruit, some ex oak, ditto soft tannins and pepper and – of course – alcohol. It’s not my style, but that’s my problem. 15.5% alc.
