Progressively plated ’16-’19, this is the second vintage, Oliver’s the leader of the pack of the handful of mencia producers. Hand-picked, open-fermented, no additions other than SO2 post mlf (as for all the Oliver’s red wines), pressed at dryness to used French hogsheads. Supple, smooth, spiced black fruits, great balance and length. A surprise packet. JH 13% alc.

What makes this wine ideal for right now?

As one of the first in Australia to plant the alluring Spanish mencia grape variety, we are loving what it is bringing to the table. Packed with violet florals, cherry syrup and a bright, punchy, savoury palate – what’s not to love? More importantly, you can wow your mates with your impressive wine knowledge by showing a variety they have probably never heard of! This is great with paella or a charcuterie plate heavy on the chorizo.
