2018 HEATHCOTE THE WILKINS SHIRAZ

- Rachel Gore

Only made in exceptional years. Matured between 18–24 months in in French oak (50% new) with 2 barrels selected and blended. This is the 5th Wilkins release, named after owner, Stephen Wilkins. Deep and dense in toasty mochascented oak, ripe plums, dark berries and earthy notes, all combining to produce a brooding, concentrated whole. A svelte palate, fine in tannin, looks set for good drinking now as well as with age. JP 14.5% alc.

$120 / 2032

What’s special about this wine, and when do you believe it will be at its peak for drinking?

Made from small berries with a high ratio of skin to juice, this wine has abundant flavour, tannin and colour. By keeping the acidity fresh and vibrant alongside seamless velvety tannins, created both naturally through the skins and seeds and enhanced through the selection of oak, this wine will age gracefully with careful cellaring for 10 or more years.
