2018 TAPANAPPA WHALEBONE VINEYARD CABERNET SHIRAZ, WRATTONBULLY

- WINEMAKER Brian Croser

The 2018 vintage was the second warmest on record after 2016. A ripe year has undoubtedly imparted more warmth and roundness to this wine, but it remains resolutely medium bodied and finely tuned. Fragrant with cabernet’s wild berries, violet and bush herbs in the lead role. Comes together seamlessly to taste, a perfect specimen of the great Aussie red blend, with even a touch of local menthol on the finish as proof. JP 14.2% alc.

$55 / 2034

What is special about the vineyard this wine was made from? Planted to cabernet varieties in Wrattonbully in 1974, the Whalebone Vineyard was so named because of the discovery of a 35-million-yearold fossilised whale skeleton in the walls of a limestone cave beneath the vineyard. The vineyard sits on a deep layer of red soil over limestone (terra rossa).
