Concentrated, black and dense, with finely knit tannins and a framework of oak that has all but sunk into the fruit. The alcohol leaves a real licorice trail through the finish, threatening to rear up and make itself known, but backs down at the last. A wine of longevity, breadth and detail. Deliciously old-school. Very good. EL 14.7% alc.
What is special about the vineyard this wine was made from? The grapes were hand picked from a vineyard planted in 1893 and tended to by Captain Stentiford, the original custodian of some of the region’s founding vines. Over a century later, these old vines still produce fruit of exceptional flavour and intensity.
