A burly wine, but the sheath of ground pepper, clove, cardamom, salumi, blue and black fruits, Asian fivespice, anise and root beer is toned by well-applied oak and 28 months’ maturation. This is fresh and savoury and rewarding in a bouillon, umami and saline sense. Reminiscent of something from the Rhône, a personal love affair. Very good. Bravo! NG 14% alc.
What is special about the vineyard this wine was made from? Our Futures Shiraz was first made in 1984 in a rich, full bodied style that is suitable for cellaring yet maintains drinkability. This 2019 wine is the 28th release. Fruit for this vintage again comes from a single vineyard planted in 1910 in McLaren Flat.
