Pikes Wines

CLARE VALLEY, SOUTH AUSTRALIA

-

Established in 1984, Pikes is a family owned and operated winery comprising 120ha of rolling slopes in Polish Hill River, a subregion of the Clare Valley. While best known for riesling, they have 20 different varieties planted on their estate, producing a wide range of styles to suit all tastes.

How should we enjoy these wines this season? The Merle Riesling is perfectly matched to freshly shucked natural oysters. With bright fruits and a lively palate, the Luccio Sangiovese is a delicious accompaniment to a charcuterie plate or pizza. For the EWP, it is hard to go past steak frites – grass-fed, medium-rare.

What wine are you most excited about? The just-released Merle Riesling is named after family matriarch Merle Pike. This single vineyard wine was made during a very cool, long growing season, and is incredibly concentrated yet approachable as a result. It will also be very long lived, cellaring for 20+ years.
