HOW TO TEACH HAPPINESS
Australian and New Zealand schools aren’t the only ones realising they need to prepare students for more than making money. In January 2018, about a quarter of Yale’s undergraduates signed up for its new course, Psychology And The Good Life – making it the most popular course in Yale’s 300- plus-year history. Over at McGill University in Montreal, students rushed to take Lessons Of Community And Compassion, which explores social connectedness. Meanwhile, a school in ultracompetitive India made headlines last year for prioritising “happiness over grades”. Modelled after a village, Riverbend School will instead focus on a child’s “personality, character and [the] goodness in their heart”.
