While we can take life lessons in mental health from the philosophies of ancient societies, looking to the past may also help boost our physical health. A 2017 study in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Research journal states that the transition to our modern sedentary lifestyle has been at least partly responsible for the development of several lifestyle diseases, such as cancer and diabetes. It suggests we look to the lifestyles of our ancestors and adopt their heightened levels of physical activity – for example, walking instead of driving – to stay metabolically healthy. “A closer look into the lifestyle of our ancestors will provide more benefit to humankind,” it reads.
