Ten key décor looks for the new year.

SWEET & SPICY

The Pantone Color Institute has picked 72 colours in eight colour palettes that it predicts will feature heavily in homes in 2019. The first palette it has highlighted is ‘ Cravings’, with shades that are meant to “tempt the eye as well as the tastebuds, with spicy reds, sweet flamingo orange and rich purples”.

MORE BLUE

Let’s face it, blue will never go out of style. It soothes and calms, and reminds us of clear skies and open oceans. Simple yet sophisticated, the classic combination of navy and white is always on trend.

DARK & DRAMATIC PAINTED KITCHENS

Say goodbye to stark white kitchens, as dark shades in greys, greens, and purples are dominating kitchen design for 2019. This kitchen painted in Dulux Purple Verbena brings a contemporary edge to the heart of the home.

WALLPAPER

Bold wallpaper can transform a space – particularly when it’s used in ‘ forgotten’ areas such as the ceiling, laundry, stairwell or guest bathroom. From geometric designs to 3D patterns, the choice is endless.

RUG UP

From noise reduction to comfort, the addition of a rug brings many benefits and style to hard- surface floors. We are seeing statement rugs being used as pieces of art, while more neutral tones will help add warmth to any room.

THINKING SUSTAINABLY

Sustainable, ethically- produced and natural fabrics will continue to be a key trend for 2019. This rememberme chair by Tobias Juretzek gives new life to old jeans and T- shirts.

DIGITAL PRINTING

Improved technology is encouraging new lines of products using digital printing, from wallpapers and upholstery to tiles and glass. Various 3D- printed pieces are also entering the market now, including chairs by Nagami unveiled at Milan Design Week 2018.

EXPERT ADVICE

Employing an interior designer or stylist was once something only the rich did, but now, anyone can benefit from expert advice. A designer can help with spatial planning, recommend furniture and accessories, and suggest colour palettes and fabrics. They’ll also have access to industry resources, can keep you on budget, and may save you time and effort.

AUTHENTIC COLLECTIONS

Personal treasures can bring a room to life. Collections not only represent individual passions or tell a story, but create a unique decorative statement. Curating a collection takes patience, particularly if you value authenticity.

RESENE FANDECK

From the dusty peaches and blues through to the inky blues and charcoals of the latest Resene fashion colours fandeck, you’ll find the trend that speaks most to you when a colour catches your eye. It will seem so obvious, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it before. Just take it and make it your own.
