FINE WINES
Despite the close proximity of their respective vineyards, the two new shiraz options from Logan Wines – 2017 Ridge of Tears Mudgee Shiraz ($50) and 2017 Ridge of Tears Orange Shiraz ($50) – are actually remarkably different. Logan’s young winemaker Jake Sheedy (pictured), who makes these wines alongside winemaker Peter Logan, says, “It’s like having two kids – a sporty boy and an angelic girl. They are both the apple of your eye – but for very different reasons. The Mudgee has a bit more guts and holds its oak – it’s more of an Aussie classic. The Orange has a feminine elegance and it is arguably more European in style.” Peter Logan adds that, “These wines are essentially an expression of the terrior of their respective Mudgee and Orange vineyards.” The Orange vineyard experiences cool to mild days and cold nights, being 400m higher in altitude, and has ancient volcanic soil. The lower Mudgee vineyard – which still sits at 564m altitude – has warm days, cold nights and ironstone and quartz gravelly loam soil. loganwines.com.au
