Antoinette Braybrook is a Kuku Yalanji woman and chief executive officer of Djirra. Commenting on the notion that it costs the government $100,000 annually to keep a woman in prison, she says: “For that amount of money to go to an Aboriginal community controlled organisation like Djirra and other family violence prevention legal services, we could provide front-end services to support 20-plus women.”
