The skin on my legs gets very dry and irritated in the winter. What can I do about it?

Gentle exfoliation is still necessary in winter, as your natural cell processes may slow down slightly in the colder weather. Temperature extremes, cold winds and central heating can all play havoc with your skin and result in dry, cracked skin. Exfoliate the body twice weekly – but be very careful not to excessively exfoliate or overuse harsh scrubs, as this could lead to sensitivity and/or irritation. Use a loofah mitt in the shower followed by a rejuvenating body lotion to nourish the skin.

What can I do about my acne?

Unfortunately, acne cannot be cured – however, it can be controlled until your hormones regulate to normal levels. Acne is caused by four factors – inflammation or irritation in the oil glands of the skin, as well as overproduction of oil, skin cells and P.Acnes bacteria. To address your acne, clean your face twice daily with warm water and cleanser. Daily exfoliation with lactic and salicylic acids will also help to unlock pores and remove dead skin build-up. Introducing vitamins A and B into your evening regimen will assist in reducing excess oil and slowing the over-production of pore-clogging skin cells. Also try using a spot-treating acne serum without benzoyl peroxide. Use a moisturiser that’s low in oil each morning and night; and steer away from heavy foundations containing oils or silicones like dimethicone, as this will only lead to more congestion.
