GEMS OF THE MED

Seabourn’s scale expertly lends itself to diverse itineraries that highlight many smaller ports of the Mediterranean, ideal for showcasing the beauty of the region. In fact, most days our ship was the only large vessel in port, docked near private yachts.

Portofino, Italy

Oh, the glamour! In this town of fewer than 500 permanent residents, you’ll find stores by Louis Vuitton and Dior. Follow the yachties to waterfront bars or swim at the beach.

Portovenere, Italy

The Cinque Terre’s gorgeous ‘sixth town’ is a pretty fishing village overlooking the Gulf of La Spezia. The beaches in this area tend to be rocky, so pack a pair of reef shoes.

Bandol, France

While many passengers headed off on shore excursions to Marseille and Toulon, I explored boutiques along the boardwalk (great prices for chic sundresses and hats).

Sète, France

Known as Venice of the Languedoc region, this seafaring town is built around a series of canals. If you enjoy seafood, be sure to pick up a tielle, the local octopus pie specialty.

Palamós, Spain

Palamós is not overdeveloped like many package-deal destinations in the region. Enjoy a cold beer and some tapas in peace, then cool off at the main beach.
