RELIEVE HEADACHES

-

22. COFFEE

Caffeine helps reduce the size of blood vessels that often enlarge before a headache or migraine, causing pain by stretching the surrounding nerves. When caffeine is added to aspirin, their pain-relieving effect increases by 40 per cent. Drinking coffee at the onset of a headache may help ease the pain.

23. ALMONDS

Research has found that having low levels of magnesium, abundant in almonds, is linked to migraines. Magnesium ‘plugs’ a certain receptor involved in the transmission of pain throughout the nervous system. A small handful of raw almonds (about 25 nuts) provides around 20 per cent of your daily needs. Other magnesium-rich foods include baby spinach, milk and wholegrain cereals.

24. GINGER

The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger can naturally mimic aspirin. A 2014 study found that ginger powder might be just as effective a treatment for migraines as some common medications. Ginger may also soothe nausea, a common side effect of headaches.
