Taming your brain

How to soothe the stressed out voices inside your head

-

Your mind is like a monkey randomly swinging from branch to branch; your thoughts go from one thing to another, to another, to another. Before you know it, you are thinking about something and have no idea how you got there.

Unfortunately, most of us have a built-in tendency to have our thoughts wander off, not to the nice and fun things of the past, nor the nice moments that are ahead. Instead, our thoughts tend to be drawn to the negative, thinking back to things that went wrong in the past or worrying about what might go wrong in the future. The monkey mind scans the past for regrets and the future for threats.

You cannot go back in time and change what has already happened, and who knows what the future holds? Your monkey mind is blocking you from being present in – and truly enjoying – the now.
