I LET it go

-

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF HOW THE RED AND GREEN BRAIN WORKS:

You can respond to the internal smoke alarm by examining what has set it off. Thus, the emotion has fulfilled its purpose and now your attention is focused on what your brain is ‘warning’ you about, it can ‘turn down the volume’ of the signal (the emotion). To make this link, say to the emotion: ‘It makes perfect sense that you are here, given the situation.’

STUCK IN STRESS (RED BRAIN):

Jenny is running late and feels stressed. She thinks to herself,‘What is wrong with me, why can’t I ever be on time?! I am definitely going to be late now. I can’t believe it, I am so bad at planning!’ She feels stressed, her breathing is shallow and her muscles are tense.

PROCESSING STRESS (GREEN BRAIN):

Jenny is running late and feels stressed. She says to the emotion,‘Hello stress. It makes perfect sense that you are here, because I am late and I hate being late.’ Then she breathes out, drops her shoulders and says,‘I let it go.’ Her breathing becomes deeper, her muscles relax and she feels calm and in control again.

STUCK IN INSECURITY (RED BRAIN):

Alex becomes filled with self-doubt at work and feels nervous and insecure at meetings. He thinks,‘I don’t have the right skills to do this job, I am such a failure and will let everyone down.’ His self-esteem and mood quickly drop, negatively impacting his ability to think and perform. When he comes home all he thinks about is work and he isolates himself from his family more and more.

PROCESSING INSECURITY (GREEN BRAIN):

Alex becomes filled with selfdoubt at work and feels nervous and insecure at meetings. He thinks,‘Hello insecurity, it makes perfect sense you are here, given what I have gone through.’ Memories of his demanding father telling him he was a failure when he did not excel come to his mind. He takes a deep breath, drops his shoulders and thinks to himself,‘I let it go. I don’t have to please my father anymore and I am not a failure.’ His system calms down, he regains his focus.
