Find your summer glow!

- ANDREA DUVALL EDITOR

Do you ever look back at your teenage self in horror, cringing at some of the crazy things you did in the name of beauty? Top of my list was the ol’ baby oil, used during lunchbreak to bake schoolgirl shins to the same hue as a roast turkey. (Of course, we didn’t know then quite how insane it was.) Since then the beauty industry has invested billions of dollars in scientific research to develop ever-more effective ways to nourish and protect our skin and we are all the beneficiaries. Nowadays we have products with ‘active’ ingredients that have revolutionised skincare.

I know from your emails that many of you, like me, are a bit cynical about some of the claims made by beauty products. So how do you work out which ones are genuinely effective? That’s why, in this issue, we are launching our first Beauty Innovation Awards. Here at Prevention we are constantly trialling new products: we get excited as we watch one colleague’s facial age spots become noticeably lighter and fade away, while another’s dry skin becomes dewy and glows visibly for the very first time.

Our beauty awards are not about what eye shadow shade is in, nor are they about what advertisers want us to say. Starting on page 65, you will discover a credible guide to getting the best, most effective skincare currently available. Our judges include a highly credentialled dermatologist, an experienced professional hair and make-up artist, and our own knowledgeable beauty editor. We hope this helps you get your summer glow on!
