New goals for a new year!
The beginning of a new year is an ideal time to reflect and reset our health goals. What are your targets in 2019? Maybe it’s something as simple as cleaning up your eating act after a festive season packed with indulgences? Or perhaps you are seeking to feel a little calmer and savour life, rather than hurtling along at a million miles an hour? Whatever your aims, we have packed this issue with inspiration and easy-to-follow strategies to help you achieve your happiest, healthiest year yet.
For me, a recent wellness holiday at Pinetrees Lodge on Lord Howe Island (which included a blissful week of yoga away from phones and traffic) has given me inspiration for the year ahead. The benefits have been profound: two hours of yoga a day has given me new flexibility and strength which I’m determined to keep forever! If you’ve been to a wellness retreat you’ll have your own mental yardstick of a ‘healthy you’ versus the ‘run-off-your-feet-and-too-tired -to-think’ you. It’s a good yardstick to have and to remind ourselves of at this time of year as we contemplate our priorities. While you’re in planning mode, have a look at our feature on page 114, which takes you on a cook’s tour of the range of wellness holidays on offer – perhaps one is right for you?
Best of all, summer makes good health intentions so much easier to carry out. Compared with winter, when my 6am walk takes place in the dark, it’s now such a pleasure to wake up and walk through those early rays of sunshine, and it never fails to reset my mood for the day ahead. Having discovered on page 25 that swimming laps actually burns up four times the energy as running, I’ll also be doing more of that this summer, too. Wherever you’re reading this issue we hope you find much to power your healthiest summer. Enjoy!
