In addition to your new healthy menu, this workout plan, created by fitness expert Chris Freytag, uses ‘eccentric training’ (emphasisin­g the lowering portion of a rep) to help you get fit quickly. The technique increases the time your muscles are under tension, which helps boost muscle fibre activation.

For this routine, instead of lifting and lowering for two counts each, you’ll double the ‘eccentric’ phase of an exercise (straighten­ing your arm during a bicep curl) to four counts.

“Each muscle fibre works harder, so you get firmer faster,” Chris Freytag explains.

A US study found that, after just one week, women who did ‘eccentric training’ increased their strength nearly twice as much as those who lifted weights at a normal pace. You’ll also build more muscle and rev up your metabolism to burn fat faster.
