The spice pearls

-

These spices not only bring a taste explosion to your favourite

meals, but they have a heap of healing benefits, too.

Winter calls for hearty dinners, packed with warming and flavourful spices such as turmeric, cinnamon and ginger, but these spices have the power to keep your health in check, too. Indeed, warming spices have been traditionally used for thousands of years in Indian and Arabic cultures due to their incredible and effective therapeutic benefits.

If you’re keen to combat low moods in the cooler months and keep your body in top shape, turmeric is a great place to start. Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is often used as adjunct support for people with chronic health conditions. A small study also suggests that curcumin, the key component of turmeric, can improve several mood-related conditions such as depression and anxiety. Top tip: add a crack of pepper when cooking with turmeric to support its absorption by the body.

Cardamom, a popular spice found in Middle Eastern food, has been lauded for its metabolic support, reducing inflammation and helping to manage cholesterol. What’s more, ginger, saffron and cinnamon have been shown in studies to reduce the symptoms of hot flushes, night sweats and mood swings in menopausal women, as they help with circulation.

Keen to benefit from the healing power of spices? Get your fill while sipping on a warm chai, dusting cinnamon on your morning porridge, or adding an abundance of spices to your favourite homemade curry.
