Worried you’re not quite nailing your workouts? Brooke Turner, exercise scientist and founder of Balance Fitness & Nutrition, shares the signs to watch out for. You’re holding your
breath: “You should be able to breathe normally. Keep a neutral spine, breathe out on the effort part of the move and focus on muscle activation.” You’re swinging the
dumbbell: “Create a strong base, softening your knees for standing exercises and decreasing the weight used or the number of reps.”
Your joints hurt: “This can be a warning that your muscles aren’t absorbing the force properly. Dynamic warm-ups [try leg swings and jumping jacks] are a great way to increase blood flow to the muscles.”
