Cervical cancer

In what’s believed to be a stunning world first, Queensland scientists have successfully cured cervical cancer in mice. The Griffith University team used CRISPR-Cas9 technology to edit the E7 gene, found in tumours caused by human papillomavirus (which causes 99 per cent of cervical cancers). Without that gene, the cancer dies. Human trials should take place in the next five years.
