We have fecal transplants for gastrointestinal disorders and vaginal fluid transplants may be next. Johns Hopkins University in the US is offering it to 40 women with bacterial vaginosis (BV), a common infection that is treated with antibiotics and is notoriously recurrent. Why the fluid transplants? Your vagina is teaming with microorganisms, just like your gut. The balance of bugs can be thrown by diet, douching, hormones and medication. Researchers suspect a dose of healthy vaginal microbes could restore the balance and stop BV.
