SHOE RECYCLING

Russian multibrand footwear retail network RendezVous has launched a shoe recycling program. The stores accept an uncapped number of worn – paired or odd – shoes from customers in return for a discount on new purchases. The shoes are sorted by material; extraneous fragments such as textiles and metal are removed and processed into small particles. Recycled material is then used to create safe coatings for playgrounds, sports fields and treadmills. By passing on the old shoes, conscious customers not only reduce waste but also help build safer playgrounds.
