FABRIC PORN

Designer Zhao Chenxi founded Fabric Porn in Shanghai in 2019. With functionality and artistry as his two foci, Chenxi handpicked his brand name to bust open the discussion surrounding sexual education across China. The irreverent spirit of the brand name continues in the collections: thus, the theme behind the label’s first season, S/S20, was ‘Make China Lit Again’ – Trump satire at its finest. The collection stemmed from the designer’s observation that contemporary Chinese people lack confidence in their own culture and are not as keen on their cultural heritage as others (read: outsiders) may be. A/W20 sees Fabric Porn continue to accentuate the cross-stitchings of traditional Chinese elements and combine these with a modern, more unisex, first-tier urban perspective, arguably putting an entirely new spin on the term –‘filial piety’ in Chinese, as in ‘honor your heritage’ – all while looking ahead.
