Sustainabi­lity in denim won’t necessaril­y come from a silver bullet in innovation, but instead will come with an economy of scale. As production increases and becomes more widespread, costs will become less prohibitiv­e for the general denim industry to adopt. That will only happen when leaders commit to sustainabi­lity early on, shoulderin­g the heavy costs of developing resources and processes, and setting a course for others to follow. Brands like AG continue to invest more into sustainabi­lity, such as our water recycling technology we launched in 2019, or our exploratio­n into sustainabl­e fabrics like hemp and Tencel, or creating a garment recycling program to encourage responsibl­e disposal or even circularit­y; it’s these early efforts at the forefront that will be the deciding factor in creating a sustainabl­e denim industry.
