REINVENTION AND RESTLESSNESS: FASHION IN THE NINETIES
The Museum at FIT is exploring a topic and era that has undergone a universal renaissance in recent years both on high fashion runways and in the street (among Gen Z and Millennial consumers in particular): 1990s fashion. Curated by Colleen Hill, the exhibition spans concepts of minimalism, deconstruction, and retro revivals in its portrayal of fashion from this multifaceted decade. Displaying works by Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Helmut Lang, Maison Margiela, Prada, and XULY.Bët among others, it addresses both haute couture and streetwear trends that extended from music scenes. An accompanying catalog treats readers to a parallel history of fashion photography with imagery by Corinne Day, Patrick Demarchelier, Craig McDean, Nick Knight, and Ellen von Unwerth.
