1800 GALLONS

1800 Gallons is a slow fashion label seeking to create a more cyclical approach to design through the use of deadstock textiles and repurposed materials. The brand was founded in September 2019 by Westminster University graduate Emily Tan Hooi Mei. Her love of design was conflicted with the industry’s glamorisation of ‘newness’ which directly contradicted sustainability efforts and mindful consumption. The name, 1800 Gallons, refers to the amount of water needed to grow the cotton for one pair of jeans, and the decision to work with denim is due to the fact that longevity is at the core of this durable material. The brand’s commitment to long term wear is solidified through a permanent core collection of contemporary cut pieces which can be loved and repurposed time and time again. Garments are developed in Tan’s London studio and sewn locally. 1800gallons.com

ONE-OFF

Susanne Delling, designer of the label One-Off, creates sustainable high-fashion jeans. The concept comes from the idea of a triple combination of sustainably manufactured jeans with an extremely high design standard and the attractiveness of individual pieces. Her experience working with distant production sites and the knowledge that the clothing industry is considered the second biggest polluter of the environment showed her the opposite way. The label consists of high-end jeans - each pair has its own design concept, embellished with accessories. She decided to produce all the collection in Germany, with local production and eco-short transport routes. The denim has always been Sussanne’s favorite fabric, and she uses only organic materials. All pieces are limited and numbered therefore bringing the end-consumer higher value. www.one-offsue.de
