CREATIVITY IN DENIM
Sharabati Denim’s collection encourages curiosity, by experimenting with dyeing and laundry to create unique products, with playful textures and colors. WeAr Denim spoke with Stefano Dotto, Product Design Manager at Sharabati Denim, on the future of creative denim, sustainability and innovation.
What are the creative possibilities for denim in the coming years?
Now is the time to create interesting products with very high sustainable contents. Recently textile research developed technological and chemical products, which allowed us to explore different finishes and applications for achieving a contemporary look and being sustainable at the same time. In the past we were more limited and mainly talked about fibers, but recently we also incorporated, for example, chemical products with zero water spillage and nice washes using sustainable chemicals.
What is important for you when you are developing a collection?
The most important thing is the team working in unison as we approach a new collection: R&D, Marketing and Sales departments sharing their needs and ideas to create new concepts. New products must catch the upcoming trends whilst at the same time remaining true to ourselves, otherwise you become a follower. It is also important to link the different phases of the development: trends concept/ mood board, sourcing fibers/chemicals, design and washing. The final sample needs to represent the initial trend concept: construction, color and finishing of the fabrics, but also the final look of the garment, such as fit and wash are crucial.
Could you share with us your ideas for your next collection, projects or innovations?
We will enlarge our offer in terms of fabrics with higher contribution contents, such as recycled fibers. New color applications like indigo coating and tinting processes created by our printing technologies, which are very sustainable because we can achieve zero discharge water results, and Selvedge denim.
