Decade after decade, there was always somebody to pick up the mantle of great Texas golf. The group before us always kept us going toward greatness. It created competition, and it created heroes.

Having 18 people from Texas in the World Golf Hall of Fame, that's pretty cool. The Hall of Fame is for great players. We always had a lot of them in Texas.

I didn't have much money for sure, but I had dreams, and in Texas that was enough.

Texas has more history and historic figures than New York, the East Coast, anyone.

Links, Lore & Legends: The Story of Texas Golf, by Art Stricklin ($24.95) — Don't mess with Texas. Actually, that has nothing to do with this book — I just like saying it. Messing with Texas golf history, that's another story. There's so much of it that you can't fit it all, in detail, in one book. Links, Lore, & Legends is a smorgasbord of Lone Star heroes and trivia, full of stuff you probabl know (are there any Ben Hogan stories you haven't heard by now?) and stuff you probably don't know (Long Drivers of America Tour founder Art Sellinger is a Texan).

The Links, Lore, and Legends book covers the whole growth of Texas golf, in increments, with special attention to the heroes, the major tournaments held in the state, and includes little known, but interesting facts.
