Highlight colourful characters

Interesting characters add greatly to a story. If you see someone wearing something unusual, doing something strange or inspiring (or even inappropriate), include them. Celebrity name-dropping is also good if you have the opportunity. During one race, I passed a guy in a chicken suit running stride for stride with a guy in an egg suit. (I would have loved to see them at the finish line and settle that argument once and for all.)
