MAXENCE, SALESPERSON
“My dad was a businessman who was always very well turned out. I can see him now with his double-breasted suit, Burberry trench coat and Weston shoes. Everything was always beautifully coordinated. And he always wore a hat. He passed on his taste for natty dressing to me. These days I like my clothes to be comfortable yet sharp. I get bored when anything’s too obvious.”
Supreme parka, from 2012, if I’m not mistaken. They’re highly sought-after because Kanye West wore one once. It has a hood, so it works well with this puffer jacket. When I buy a special piece like this, I always style it in my own way to make it more personal.
I really feel the cold, so these turtlenecks are a lifesaver in winter. I buy a bunch of them at COS, always oversized. They’re a staple, like tank tops and T-shirts.
An Alyx puffer jacket I bought in 2017. It’s a one-off. I managed to get hold of it thanks to a friend who knows the brand’s designer, Matthew Williams.
A bag from Korean brand Andersson Bell. I always need a bag to put my stuff in. Pockets aren’t enough.
This pendant was a gift from Martine Ali, an American designer. I met her a couple of years ago when I popped into the space where she was showing her collection, in Paris’s Marais. We instantly connected and became friends. She gave me this pendant, which I wear as a reminder of our friendship.
A pair of joggers by Celine. I like to feel comfortable, and these are great for that. But also, and you wouldn’t necessarily notice, they’re really well cut. They’re slightly wider around the hem so you can wear them with different kinds of footwear.
Rubber boots, also by Alyx. They’re very heavy; you feel the weight of them when you walk – it takes a bit of getting used to. But because they’re made of neoprene around the ankles, you feel comfortable when you’re moving.
